Mashal Awais is an environmental scientist with over 10 years of experience working alongside environmental justice communities. Her expertise lies in careful attention and deep listening to impacted communities, and the solutions that are envisioned by communities being worked with. With a background in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin (2012), and a Masters of Environmental Analysis and Decision Making from Rice University (2017), she has spent the last 16 years building her career in Texas. From working with local government, alongside non profit organizations, and for industry, she can work in diverse work environments and industry segments.
Her recent experience allows her to work at the cross roads of environmental justice and conservation, of traditional science with community based participatory and data to action frameworks, and anchors herself in the vision of ensuring human centered and decentralized solutions for the communities she works with and her clients.
She is a strategic leader, rooted in evidence based science, education and communicating science and taking insightful stories and informing her research, ensuring her research is able to guide and inform decision makers to further communities needs and access to a safe environmen.
